TRAVEL WRITER INVASION

|

A little shout out to my buds and other delegates to the Central States chapter convention of the Society of American Travel Writers, who have been meeting here since Wednesday and whose guest speakers have included Her Honor the Mayor.

Central States is the big dog of the SATW, producing way more than its share of presidents, board members, etc. Current chair of the Central gang is Libby Smith, travel editor of the respected Arkansas Democrat Gazette, whose executive editor is husband Griffin Smith, a familiar name to longtime readers of Texas Monthly, among other publications. Helping arrange all of it, in part, is the DMN‘s travel editor, Larry Bleiberg. Last saw him in Vegas, but that’s all I have to say about that.

Tomorrow the 100 or so travel writers take in things like the arts scene in town and the JFK Conspiracy Tour, then a big awards dinner at the Hyatt. On Sunday, brunch at the Mansion. Tough gig.
