From a Ticket-listening FBvian:
Wondering if anyone in the vast, sweet, clean FB Nation heard what I heard on the The Ticket this morning about 7:05 a.m.: I tuned in toward the middle of what was a very heated exchange between Craig Miller and Ticket Ticker man Rich Phillips over blacks and NASCAR. From what I could tell, it sounded like Miller had said the only blacks at yesterday’s NASCAR were the two local reporters (Joe Trahan from WFAA and Max Morgan from KDFW). Phillips, challenging Miller, said there were 2,000, and defended NASCAR. Phillips then admitted he didn’t go to the race, and the fireworks started. Can anyone fill in the blanks on this?
I didn’t hear the segment. But I can tell you this: Adam and I attended last year’s NASCAR races at TMS. I filed a report for this magazine titled “Fast Cars! Wanton Women! Yeehaw!: The sublime, beer-fueled foolishness of my very first (and likely last) NASCAR weekend.” And I can also tell you that we literally counted every black person we saw at the track. If memory serves, at the end of the weekend, we’d counted 12. Remember, more than 200,000 race fans show up at TMS for a NASCAR weekend.
Update: NASCAR didn’t much care for a Dateline report that planted Muslims at a race.
