BEHIND THE BEST BURGER

|

Opinions and beef patties were both sizzling this weekend at Burger House, the famed Park Cities greasy spoon, about D Magazine’s Best Burger in Dallas article. Burger House, a legend, did not even make the first round, which inflamed patrons. Taking my life into my hands, I defended food editor Nancy Nichols and the surprisingly unbiased, scientific method with which she approached the task. I also answered questions about the cover shot – “Hey, how’d they do that?” – that art director Todd Johnson says was “the toughest cover shoot in D history.” Along with deputy art director David Radabaugh and a food stylist, the group worked with photographer Manny Rodriguez for more than 10 hours to shoot “the ultimate burger,” finishing about 3:00 in the morning. Too tired to even take a bite!
