GEEZER ROCK

|

Last night I went to see Sir Paul at the AAC. I went with a chip on my shoulder. I was always a “John Girl.” Anyway, Sir Paul was–how do you say it now?–awesome. I would even use the word “edgy” in the same sentence as Paul McCartney. He threw in a couple of bitchin’ Jimi Hendrix riffs! The only time I had to cover my ears was when he played “Jet” and “Band on the Run.” However, tears rolled down my cheeks when he sang “Til There Was You,” one of what he called his “smoochy songs.” The die-hard crowd of fifty- and sixty-somethings swayed as McCartney served up some lesser-known Beatles favorites such as “I’ll Follow the Sun” and “Good Day Sunshine.” Had to laugh when the band left the stage and half the audience pulled out their cell phones and flicked them on like Bics. Here’s the set list:

Magical Mystery Tour
Flaming Pie
Jet
I’ll Get You (never played live)
Drive My Car
Let Me Roll It
Got to Get You In My Life
Fine Line (new song)
Maybe I’m Amazed
