A friend of Miers writes in to defend her honor on the gay “non-supportive” front:
I know Harriet personally. She was not anti-gay. She just didn’t believe
the city taking a position on the Texas Sodomy law was in her job
description as a council member. She rightfully thought it was a State
Legislative decision. She was treated terribly by a gay group while she
campaigned for the at large council seat. They demonstrated at several
debates when she spoke. She stood her ground.
