NEW TIMES BUYS VILLAGE VOICE

We’ve speculated for months that New Times Media, parent company of the Dallas Observer, would buy Village Voice Media, owner of six alternative weeklies. Well, the speculation is over. The deal’s done.

But questions remain. One is how it will play with the Justice Department, which, in 2002, charged the companies with illegal collusion. Another is what will happen to the Voice’s staffs across the country. New Times has a habit of buying out a paper, purging its staff and then replacing it with one New Times sees fit. Developing.
