LAST NIGHT: A TRUE STORY

By Nancy Nichols |

I woke up at 3:00 in the morning in a full sweat. Somewhere deep in my subconscious, I had just pulled Wick out of the Zambezi River in Zimbabwe. Backfill: In the dream, Wick and I, along with Stephan Pyles and a couple of other composite characters, were on a “swimming safari” in Africa. Wick had decided that he wanted to swim the treacherous waters of the Zambezi and, since I’ve fished there, he asked me to take him. Our guides steered the boat up the river that is lined with 8-foot crocodiles and thousands of hippos. Nobody seemed nervous. Wick was talking about starting a fly-fishing magazine when the boat stopped and we were instructed to get in the water for our swim.

At this point we were surrounded by crocodiles who nipped at our feet. The guides kept them at bay. Then a herd of hippos–the most dangerous animal in the water–started after us. The guides returned to the boat. Wick stayed to get a closer look. We were all panicked that Wick (and my current paycheck) was going to be swallowed alive. As all kinds of deadly creatures surrounded Wick–I swear this is true–he shouts, “Hurry, go blog this.” I woke up. Here’s the blog. Wick is not in the office.
