It should get more attention that crime is down in Dallas to a significant degree. Homicides are down 8 percent, which is really good news for those people who would not be here if homicide rates had stayed the same. Burglaries are down. Assaults are down. Chief Kunkel is doing a lot with a little – he still needs about 500 more officers – and he and the folks in blue deserve some love. As the referenced article points out, just giving DPD 60 officers for a new Operation Disruption Task Force (and some squad cars that run) makes a measurable difference. What could they do with a fully funded force? Make Dallas one of the safest cities in America? Do you think that investment might stimulate growth?
