MARY MAPES FIRES BACK–FINALLY

Back when the whole Mapes thing broke, I sent her flowers and an invitation to tell her story in the pages of D. She declined (to even say thank you). Now comes her book, which will be published November 8. Here’s an excerpt:

I was staying at my favorite hotel home away from home, The Pierre, a grand old New York pile that is stuffy and high-priced. Without my CBS discount, I never would have seen the inside of the place.

What is this drivel? I’m sure glad it didn’t wind up in our magazine. Sheesh.
