RE: LOCAL GIRL HAS AMERICAN LIFE

|

A FrontBurnervian with a student at Booker T. takes issue with Kristy Kruger‘s assessment of the education it offers:

I just listened to her episode of This American Life online. While listening, my junior Booker T. Washington student walked into the room to let me know that I would probably not see much of her tonight because she would be working on all of her history assignments due for her class before school starts tomorrow. This has been going on for much of the last two weeks. I should also note that she, and almost all of her friends at BTW, were rated commended on their 10th grade history TAKS testing. I was astounded to hear the BTW graduate indicate that it was her high school’s fault that she didn’t know when World War I was in relation to other world events. Duh? I had great fear and trepidation sending my daughter to a DISD school after eight years of private school, continue to question and be unhappy with some of the decisions at this school, but just wanted to set the record straight on what we have experienced with the current academic environment there.
