A luncheon-attending FrontBurnervian reports:
Just got back from the Dallas Chamber of Commerce’s luncheon at Westin City Center where Defense Secretary Rumsfeld was to speak. Even though Rummy was ostensibly grounded in Amarillo on the way from Santa Fe for weather reasons (although the satellite is clear [the FBer sent a satellite snapshot for proof]), the Dallas Chamber didn’t announce his absence until all were seated and the doors were closed, probably to prevent a mass exodus. As a backup, we were treated to a stimulating speech by Kay Bailey, as she trumpeted the funding for the Calatrava bridges and announced her support for bullet trains in Texas (isn’t that what Southwest [Airlines] is for).
Rummy did manage to call in from an airport lounge in Potter County for 10 minutes or so. Good speech.
I’m guessing my invite got lost in the mail.
