The Amon Carter Museum has an addictive new website based on old “bird’s eye view” maps, usually very detailed, from the 1800s. Check out this 1892 one of Dallas. You can get your bearings by Old Red. The river is whole lot closer, a whole lot more interesting – but the 1908 flood changed everybody’s thinking, I suppose.
