HOODWINKED? (A FOLLOW-UP)

By Adam McGill |

A law-practicing FrontBurnervian tells us Charles Dean Hood, the man accused of double murder in Plano and sentenced to death, received a stay of execution:

I just read in the Texas Lawyer (July 4 issue) that the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals granted Charles Dean Hood a stay of execution on June 27. Hood’s attorney and his habeas team plans to investigate Verla Sue Holland’s affair with Tom O’Connell and any due process violations that may have occurred as a result.

Turns out, the DMN has covered this ground as well. Jennifer Emily’s story includes this quote from David Haynes, Hood’s attorney in 1990:

“I think it’s ground that’s been plowed.”

I’m pretty sure he’s talking about the rumors of the judge’s affair and not the judge herself.
