D MAGAZINE: THE TYRANNY OF DEADLINE

Yes, dear readers, the edit and art staff are hunkered down on our last day of deadline for the August issue. That can mean only one thing: CRAB WALK! Earlier in the morning, Tim trounced me at darts (I’d never beaten him in many, many attempts). The loser naturally has to do the old elementary school crab walk down the long hallway to editorial. I collapsed at least six times, though it makes for a good upper-body workout. Tim, always the friend, talked me through it. Sadly, no camera was available.

But when the gods smiled at me and I edged out Tim in our apres-lunch match, a digital camera appeared out of nowhere. That’s Tim, doing the crab walk with the speed and grace of an Olympic athlete. He made it to our office in record time without stopping once. That’s me on the left, looking like I’m either bowing respectfully or preparing to empty the contents of my stomach. Round 3 will begin shortly.
