RON CHAPMAN SIGNS OFF

|

A amplitude-modulating FrontBurnervian offers this recap of Chapman’s last moments on the air this morning:

Letter from the President, phoners from mayors Laura Miller and Wes Wise, in-studio with Ebby Halliday and Florence Shapiro. Final words were few; he said he chose not to get sentimental. Final song was The Byrds’ “Turn, Turn, Turn” and Jody Dean’s first song was Fogelberg’s “Leader of the Band.” Dean said, “My life has been a poor attempt to imitate the man. I am a living legacy to the leader of the band.” Then lots more suck-up songs: “To Sir, with Love,” “Some Day We’ll be Together,” etc.

Interesting note: when Joel Hollander, head of Infinity Broadcasting, called in, he said to Ron something along the lines that “we’ll be doing more projects together soon.”
