Here’s a personal account of Judge Ortiz.
I’ve been in front of Judge Ortiz numerous times, fortunately, always on behalf of a client. He is always on his high horse. You’d think that he was running a federal court out of that rinky-dink courtroom, except that most federal judges do the exact same thing with quite a bit more patience and humor.Then again, they’re not dealing with Class C misdemeanor stupidity for a living the way that Judge Ortiz is. That said, he’s a good judge. In my experience, he follows the law and hands it to the Man as often as he does to a defendant, often giving the defendant the benefit of the doubt when the Man screws up, since the Man should know better. As you’ve apparently experienced.
