RE: APPLY FOR A JOB

|

A roving FrontBurnervian says he came across this job listing “rather circuitously”:

911/311 CALL TAKER [SENIOR] – F (40056)
No written exam
Salary range $14.94 – $24.65 hourly depending on qualifications
Three years experience receiving and processing 911/311/water inbound/outbound calls performing data entry, complaint resolution and customer service. Must be highly skilled in LINC, CIABS, VESTA, CRMS and 2-way radio dispatch. Must be a TCLEOSE Certified 911 Operator. Must have own telephone. Intensive background investigation and drug test required (no felony convictions or Class A Misdemeanors). Bilingual skills are helpful. Must be able to work nights and weekends. High School or equivalent. POSTED: MAY 16, 2005 (DFD)

The burning question our reader wants to know is, “What’s up with the requirement that you have your own phone?” I’m sure someone will explain it.
