An Adults-Only Roller Skating Rink is Opening This Fall

A new roller skating rink is set to open this fall for adults only. That means boozy drinks and food on wheels!

Not literally, but Ride On from On Brand Hospitality will be a “social drink rink” in the Design District that will have a roller skating rink, an arcade, and a DJ. It’ll be a whopping 17,000 square feet, which includes a 7,000-square-foot rink.

A full food and drink menu wasn’t available, but it includes a twist on kid classics, like boozy ICEEs and gourmet hot dogs on brioche buns.

Ride On will open this fall at 1001 N. Riverfront Blvd.

Stoneleigh P Will Move After 50 Years on Maple Avenue

The Stoneleigh P, a mainstay bar on Maple Avenue, is turning 50 this month right as it plans to move to a new location, according to the Dallas Morning News. Owner Tom Garrison told the News their landlord won’t let them resign a lease. The plan is to relocate within a few blocks of where they are now. The bar’s 50th birthday celebration is April 15 starting at 3 p.m. 2926 Maple Ave.

Doce Mesas Completes Lineup of Maple Terrace Restaurants

It’ll be margaritas and tacos galore when Tex-Mex restaurant Doce Mesas opens alongside CATCH Dallas at Maple Terrace next year. Maple Terrace is a mixed-use development that has been restored and revamped for apartments and offices by real estate investment companies Hines and Mitsui Fduosan America. Doce Mesas will round out the restaurant spaces set aside for the building, according to a press release.

The new spot will be the restaurant’s third, which includes locations on North Central Expressway and McKinney Avenue. It’ll also be the only Doce Mesas to offer breakfast, which will include a menu of juices, pastries, chilaquiles, breakfast burritos, and breakfast tacos.

The opening for the development is slated for Q2 2024.

New Steak and Seafood Spot Called Trick Rider Gallops into Frisco Golf Resort

A restaurant serving up steaks and seafood is opening this spring at the new Omni PGA Frisco Resort, according to a press release. Trick Rider will have dry-aged meats, fresh seafood, and a giant, 1,500-pound crystal horse chandelier.

The menu includes East Coast oysters, wagyu beef, wine, and cocktails. Joshua Hasho will take place as executive chef of the new concept. Trick Rider will be open for dinner only.

Two French-Asian Concepts Will Open Along Katy Trail

Travis Street Hospitality founder Stephan Courseau and chef-partner Bruno Davaillon are opening two French-Asian fusion concepts at The Terminal at Katy Trail early next year. The Dallas Morning News first reported the news of Rose Cafe, which will join Le PasSage.

Both concepts will be a blend of French and Asian cuisines. Davaillon is well known for his French cooking, but this will be his first time experimenting with Asian ingredients in a concept.

“French and Asian cuisines have some very dynamic similarities in their cooking styles, so we are excited to bring in a Chef that has extensive experience in the space,” Davaillon said in a prepared statement.

Travis Street Hospitality also operates Le Bilboquet, Knox Bistro, and Georgie by Curtis Stone. Davaillon will work in collaboration at Le PasSage with an executive chef who is yet to be named. Rose Cafe will be more casual, offering all-day fare to complement upscale Le PasSage.

The name, by the way, is purposefully stylized with the capital “s” in the middle of the word. According to a representative, “Pas Sage” in French refers to children being naughty—telling a child “tu n’es pas sage,” translates to “you are not being wise,” or that they’re misbehaving. So perhaps we’ll get some exciting and spicy dishes on the menu.

Both concepts are slated for an early 2024 debut at 4205 Buena Vista St.

Nuri Grill Creators Replace Old Concept with New Korean Barbecue Spot

JOA, a new Korean barbecue concept, has replaced Nuri Grill in Koreatown and will serve “authentic traditional Korean food,” according to a press release.

Is it kind of strange that a restaurant was replaced by a similar concept? Sort of. But owner Wan Kim said in October that Nuri Grill was a place to test recipes for Nuri Steakhouse, which is expected to open this summer in Uptown.

JOA (it means “I like it” in Korean) will take a more traditional approach and serve fried galbi, beef tukbokki, and yuk hoe, a sesame-marinated beef tartare with garlic and soy. Meat options come with a selection of kimchi, potato salad, pickled vegetables, and more. Drinks include Korean classical like soju and a selection of Asian beers.

JOA is now open at 2254 Royal Ln.

Matt’s Rancho Martinez Closes Its Lakewood Location

Tex-Mex restaurant Matt’s Rancho Martinez closed its location in the Lakewood neighborhood on April 3 after 34 years, according to a Facebook post. (Not to be confused with Matt’s El Rancho in Austin, which is owned by Matt Martinez Sr. and his wife, Janie. His son, Matt Jr., and his wife Estella opened Matt’s Rancho Martinez in Dallas.) 

The spot was known for its popular Bob Armstrong dip and chicken fried steaks. Owners told the News that they closed the location to invest in their own real estate. The restaurant has two other locations in Allen and Royse City.
