After almost a year and a half of anticipation, White Rock Alehouse & Brewery owners say they hope to open a second location, called White Rock Brewing Co., just west of the Trinity River at the end of March. Owners Greg Nixon and Dave Kirk say their new space, in addition to their Alehouse on Gaston Avenue, will help bolster brewing productions and make way for a new venture: pizza.

That’s right, pizza! Nixon and Kirk say the White Rock Brewing Co. menu will serve New York-style pizza with toppings you can customize or try, like tikka masala, in addition to some customer favorites from the Alehouse. A full menu hasn’t been built yet, and a head chef hasn’t been hired, but Nixon and Kirk say that once they’re up and running, they hope the pizza sales can help keep business steady.

“At the Alehouse, with a big menu, we were just constantly changing our menu because something wasn’t available anymore or prices would go way, way up,” Kirk says. “We’re hoping pizza stabilizes that a little more.”

Nixon and Kirk opened White Rock Alehouse in 2017 in East Dallas and have won numerous awards for their beers, including at the Great American Beer Festival in October, the largest beer competition in the country.

The new location is about 10,000 square feet of indoor space and about 5,000 square feet of covered and uncovered patio space. There are several apartment buildings within walking distance, and from the front of the building, there’s a view of the downtown Dallas skyline. In the back, a turf-covered patio will one day have string lights strewn above. A sign with new branding went up on the front of the building recently.

White Rock Brewing Co. is filled with all kinds of sophisticated machinery to allow head brewmaster Blake Morrison to experiment and brew massive batches of beer, which Kirk says could help existing recipes taste even better.

Kirk and Nixon say they plan to do some soft openings before a grand opening, but a specific date hasn’t been set. The brewhouse should be up and running in April, and by May, they’ll be able to serve brews coming out of West Dallas. They also say that when the time comes to flock south of the Trinity, there’s plenty of parking for all their familiar and new customers.
