Lubellas Patisserie Lands in East Dallas

A pastry shop full of croissants, conchas, and cheesecakes opened its doors in the Casa View Shopping Center over the weekend. CultureMap first reported the opening.

Maria Becerra, a former Bullion pastry chef, opened Lubellas Patisserie with her husband, Ismael Trejo, after spending the last two years baking goods for her friends and family. Becerra was let go from Bullion after the French restaurant closed during the pandemic.

At first, it was the “simple stuff” like banana muffins and bread, she told D, but then orders started coming in for decorated cakes.

“I don’t have any experience decorating,” Becerra says. “But then, I started doing it every week—birthday cakes, themed cakes, flower cakes.”

Becerra also started to bake conchas, a sweet Mexican bread, for her family. Between all the pastries and a growing number of customers, Becerra and her husband decided that it was time to open up their own business.

In addition to running the shop, Becerra and her team also help with lunches at a Catholic school down the street. The school asked for help two weeks before classes started after another catering company pulled out at the last minute. From the cooking to administrative work, Becerra’s team handles it all.

Her dedication to the community has paid off. Every day since Lubellas (affectionately named after the couple’s two daughters, Luciana and Isabella) opened, the bakery has had so much business that something has run out. Becerra has been baking more croissants than she can count, and her tres leches cheesecakes have been a hit, she says.

“We’ve been so blessed, like, I cannot complain,” she says. “It’s a good thing happening to us.”

The French Room Resumes Dinner Service for a Limited Time

The French Room is reopening its dining room for limited dinner service after taking a two-year break during the pandemic for a chef guest series. The “Be Our Chef Guest” series will take place on select days in October, November, and January, according to a press release. Chef Laurent Quenoix, who hails from Sologne, France, will kick off the series this month. Quenoix will serve a four-course meal of French cuisine at $125 per person for six nights: October 13-15 and October 19-21. The French Room | 1321 Commerce St.

There Are Two Ramen Shops Called Ichiro on Maple Avenue—For Now

If you’ve driven down Maple Avenue lately and wondered about the presence of two different ramen restaurants named Ichiro, less than one mile apart, worry not: this isn’t another Carbone vs. Carbone’s situation. Ichiro Ramen Shop, the original business at 4906 Maple Ave., is moving a few blocks north and has opened its new location under the new name Ichiro Sapporo Ramen, at 2555 Inwood Rd, Ste. 139. The new Ichiro is already open; the old spot closes at the end of this week, and will be remodeled by the same owners and converted into a Vietnamese restaurant. A New Champagne Bar Consults with a Familiar Name: ChefBruno Davaillon

Coupes, a bubbly Champagne bar from France, is opening its doors this fall with a pairing menu that had a bit of help from beloved Dallas-based French chef Bruno Davaillon. Davaillon, formerly of the Rosewood Mansion and Bullion, is a chef-partner at Knox Bistro and helping the Champagne bar with an opening pairing menu (he won’t be working there). Coupes will have more than 15 Champagnes and sparkling wines, and it sounds like it’ll have a stellar menu to match. Coupes | 4234 Oak Lawn Ave.

More European-Inspired Food for North Texas

A new restaurant called Monaco opened in Las Colinas Saturday with a menu inspired by the French Riviera. Owner David Lamberti (if that name looks familiar, it’s because the family also owns Lamberti’s Ristorante in Irving), along with assistant general manager Johnny Hardy, executive chef and beverage director Matthew Perry, and general manager and sommelier Frank Horak crafted a Euro-Italian menu that includes pork boudin, Morrocan beef cheek, and tartare of filet with a wine menu to match. The team later plans to open a bodega next door and a cocktail lounge behind the restaurant. Monaco | 5238 North O’Connor Blvd., Ste. 134, Las Colinas.
