Ready, set, vote! You have until tonight at midnight for Round 1. 'Cause your voice matters.

Y’all, the State Fair of Texas takes no prisoners. It arrives like a tornado of petting-zoo animals and Midway ride tickets and fry oil. We cover the food. We amply cover the food. And then you descend and eat your weight in deep-fried finger fare. But we remain democratic. We’d never declare a “best fair food” winner without you. Hence the State Fair food bracket.

This year we’ve arranged your longtime favorites and this year’s creative newcomers in the wrestling ring against one another to find out which will be champion for 2021. Vote once a day, every day, until October 14 at midnight. There are five rounds and Round 1 ends at midnight tonight.

This is where you get to exercise your right to speak loud, speak proud about what bites you loved most. Those gumbo balls that scorched your mouth or the bizarro-brilliant Armadillo?

Then there are the all-timers: Fletcher’s Corny Dog, the yellow mustard-swizzled fair food par excellence, versus Fruteria Cano Fruit in a Cup. A turkey leg versus Ruth’s Tamales. Jack’s French Fries or salt water taffy? The choice is yours. Help us pick the king of the fair.

Go forth and vote here. The timeline:

Round 1: Sept. 24 – Sept. 28
Round 2: Sept. 29 – Oct. 3
Round 3: Oct. 4 – Oct. 8
Round 4: Oct. 9 – Oct. 11
Round 5: Oct. 12 – Oct. 14
Winner Announced: Friday, Oct. 15, just in time for the final weekend.
