A Bread-Fueled Pop-Up Supports Those with Special Needs
Sour on Dallas, a bready pop-up by Dallas Rabbi Levi Dubrawsky, is equal parts sourdough enthusiasm and mission driven. Dubrawsky along with his wife, Leah, “are baking up everything from olive-studded loaves to rye sourdough to focaccia and sourdough chocolate chip cookies,” reports Eater Dallas. Proceeds from each order benefits Friendship Circle Dallas, for which Dubrawsky is the director, and its members with disabilities. The Central Texas barbecue joint had only just debuted on Greenville Avenue last year, amid a pandemic no less, yet it has a second location slated to open next spring in the former Chamberlain’s Fish Market Grill on Belt Line Road, reports Dallas Morning News. Find Grand Prairie Entrepreneur’s Social Impact Tea at Local Krogers
Last year I wrote about Chi Nguyen, founder of Purple Tea, who launched her social impact product on the premise of giving back. “I wasn’t interested in creating a company that just sold something,” Nguyen told me back in November. Last year, you could find bottles of Purple Tea, the leaves of which are sourced from Kenya and plucked predominantly by women, at Whole Foods. Now you can procure the brewed tea at Kroger grocery stores. Proceeds from Purple Tea go to Kenyan tea pickers (for training, education, school tuition for their children, and more).

Take Two Barleymilk, just released at Dallas Sprouts Farmers Markets (naturally!), uses spent grain from beer brewing and upcycles it into protein-and-calcium-packed plant milk. I can’t wait to order a barleymilk latte—unironically!
Shell Shack in Denton Has Closed
The seafood restaurant’s last day was June 19. A press release cites “a massive and lengthy construction project on I-35” as reason “the restaurant [was] forced to close its doors.” It had been there since 2018, but the highway expansion project made the restaurant difficult to get to. Shell Shack is in search of a new location in the Denton area, but there’s no timeline yet. Till then, visit other locations on Henderson Ave. in Dallas, as well as in Plano and Fort Worth.
