The State Fair’s 2019 Big Tex Choice Awards finalists were announced a couple of weeks ago. You can read about them here.
The 15th Annual Big Tex Choice Awards took place yesterday. A panel of judges tasted the ten finalists and then chose three winners for the following categories: Best Taste (savory), Best Taste (sweet), and Most Creative.
The winners:
Best Taste (savory)
Ruth’s Stuffed Fried Mexi-Cone by Ruth Hauntz: slow-cooked barbacoa served in an ice cream cone-shaped tortilla shell with black beans and cilantro-lime rice. It is topped with pico de gallo, queso fresco, and homemade salsa verde.
Best Taste (sweet)
Big Red Chicken Bread by Brent and Juan Reaves: a Big Red frosted doughnut topped with fried chicken.
Most Creative
Fla’Mango Tango by The Garza Family: a creamy mango pastry is fried and drizzled with a citrus glaze. It’s topped with whipped cream and served with a side of strawberry-mango sorbet.
There you have it.
