Shayna’s Place Annex Opens in the Former Local Press + Brew Spot

Open the door, and it may not strike you immediately: the spot on the corner of Beckley Avenue near Methodist hospital that used to hold the juicery and coffee shop Local Press + Brew now houses an annex of Shayna’s Place, the casual sandwich shop that opened in Sylvan Thirty last November.

It’s the same white-walled, black-accented, minimalist space. And menu items are listed on the same chalkboard.

If you were a fan of the greenest of the green juices, you might gravitate towards the Beet It or the mixture of kale, parsley, cucumber, and celery, livened by green apple. The nitro coffee was not the Nirvana-like experience I’ve had in the spot’s previous incarnation, where I wrote rhapsodically about the coconut nitro cold-brew. I found that it lacked fizz and the accompanying creaminess of texture. (It’s still Noble Coyote Coffee from the Expo Park roastery.)

Meanwhile, the wall holds cute chalkboard drawings of coffee drinks (cup types and fill levels for cappuccino, macchiato, americano, and so on). While the menu offers breakfast noshes, smoothies, and tacos from Shayna’s Sylvan Thirty neighbor Tacodeli. The soft-serve machine in the corner did not seem particularly active. But a couple perched by the window, dipping into grab-and-go salads and an avocado toast that out fluffy with alfalfa sprouts.

The Annex will be open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, with possible extended walk-up window hours to follow.
