This Saturday, August 3, the Dallas Farmers Market will kick off National Farmers Market Week (August 5 through 11) with its second watermelon festival, which will be a celebration of the fruit world’s behemoths, all ruby (or yellow or orange) interiors and striped rinds.
Last year, the aisles were running with watermelon juice, and teams of people were cleaving the rinds and handing out wedges. The day will include bowling with watermelons, a watermelon-eating contest (adult and kid events), a watermelon seed-spitting contest, and a dress-up pet pageant.
And yes, they’ve declared Saturday an official Watermelon Day. Start memorizing the names. Truck Busters, for example.
