There’s not always enough time in the day to skim a lengthy, re-worded press release that’s been stamped with “breaking” or “exclusive.” And some stories don’t warrant an entire page of prose. Each week we’ll gather the most important tidbits of Dallas food news and post them here, on SideDish. Because sometimes all you need is the scoop.
The Biscuit Bar is now open in University Park: The biscuit-centric restaurant, which opened last year at the Boardwalk at Granite Parkin in Plano, has a second location. Some facts, which I learned from a press release:
- It’s located near SMU at 6501 Hilcrest Avenue Dallas
- It officially opened on May 21, but there is a grand opening party on Friday, May 24 starting at 8 a.m. The first 10 guests will receive a $100 gift card. The next 100 guests will receive a $10 gift card. (No shoving or pushing in line, guys. Only karate chops are allowed.)

Abacus to close: After nearly 20 years, Abacus is calling it quits. Two decades is a decent run for a restaurant in Dallas. Heck, that’s like 140 dog years. Not relevant unless you’re a dog. Moving on. According to the release, management’s decision to “retire the Abacus brand” is based on Dallas diner’s evolving palates. The restaurant will close on June 1. They plan to open a new concept in the summer.
Uchi is hosting a sushi rolling class:
Learn how to prepare sushi. And then eat that sushi. The class takes place at 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 9 and includes a multi-corse dinner. Tickets are $125 and can be purchased by calling 214-855-5454 👨🏾🍳🍣🍱👩🍳
