What To Drink Now: Toasting Margarita Day

If you are a tequila lover, especially when it’s blended with lime and salt, today is your day. Happy National Margarita Day, guys. Here is a roundup of sweet, spicy, simple, and elaborate cocktails ideal for toasting this tasty holiday.

CAMARENA PINEAPPLE CHILI MARGARITA
2 parts Camarena Reposado
¾ part simple syrup/agave nectar
¾ part lime juice
½ part Cointreau
3 muddled pineapple chunks
Pinch of chili powder and sugar
Preparation: add ingredients into a shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously. Rub rim of glass with chili mix. Strain mixture into the glass filled with ice. Garnish with rosemary sprig.

SMOKE AND FIRE MARGARITA
¾ part Montelobos Mezcal
¾ part Ancho Reyes Chile Liqueur
¾ part Milagro Silver Tequila
1 part fresh lime juice
½ part agave nectar
Using a lime wedge, wet the rim of an old-fashioned glass, salt it, and set aside. Add all ingredients to an ice-filled shaker. Shake, and double strain over fresh ice into glass. Garnish with lime wedge.

JALISCO EXPRESS
(Recipe inspired from Mi Dia from Scratch. Their version is available at the restaurant today.)
2 parts Cazadores Reposado
1 part Cointreau
1/2 stemmed and seeded Serrano pepper
10 cilantro leaves
1/2 lime
1/2 part habanero infused agave
Preparation: add Serrano, cilantro, agave, and lime to a shaker and muddle slightly. Add Cointreau and tequila to the shaker with ice. Shake until cold and strain into an ice-filled cocktail glass. Garnish with extra cilantro leaves and lime.

CHAYA AND AVOCADO MARGARITA

2 oz Patron Tequila Silver
1 oz Cointreau
Lime juice
Dash of sugar
2 Chaya leaves
1 julienne slice of avocado.
Preparation: blend all ingredients together with ice. Pour into a margarita glass & garnish with avocado slice.

KIWI & MEZCAL MARGARITA

3 Slices of kiwi
1.5 oz lime juice
2 oz Casamigos Mezcal
1 oz Gran Marnier
2 oz agave sweetener
Preparation: dust glass rim with chili powder. Mince kiwis and add to an ice-filled glass. Top with Mezcal, Gran Marnier, lime, agave, and stir. Garnish with a kiwi slice.
