Fans of Family Guy have a new-ish place to booze it up like Peter Griffin for the next month thanks to The Drunken Clam. The pop-up bar, which is located inside The Whippersnapper, is as delightfully irreverent as the animated comedy itself. The concept, from This & That Concepts (High Fives, Tiny Victories, The Whip, Ferris Wheelers, Dibs on Victory), features custom-illustrated works of the show’s major players by artists Johnny Freeman and Kyle McClard. The Portraits of everyone’s favorite characters can be found throughout the space, and include topless pics of matriarch Lois and daughter Meg. (The uncensored versions will be on display in time for the official opening tonight at 6 p.m., so consider yourself warned.)
In addition to non-stop episodes appearing on the TVs above the bar, the 30-day-only spot also offers a special four-drink menu with nods to the show’s lore, as well as more insidery jokes for long-time fans. Case in point: Stewie’s Cool Hwhip, a tribute to the scheming baby’s predilection for adding an exaggerated H sound to any word beginning with W. The drink itself is a technicolor concoction of light rum, coconut rum, blue Curaçao, and pineapple juice topped off with whipped cream and a cherry.
Other Quahog libations include a 40-ounce Pawtucket Patriot Ale, which is really just a Miller High Life in disguise; Brian’s martini, a straightforward tribute to the family dog’s favorite tipple; and Oooooh Yeah shots, Kool-Aid-inspired shooters with vodka, amaretto, melon, and cranberry liqueurs.
Customers will find Family Guy references in every nook and cranny, including the restrooms and nestled among the bottles behind the bar. Additional surprises are in-store to keep the pop-up fresh throughout its month-long run, so frequent visits could yield entirely different experiences.
None of which will rely on good, old-fashioned values.
