Spring is an explosion of festivals. Among these—the Thai new year festival Songkran, the Indian feast of the chariots—here is one to add to your roster this weekend. Haru Matsuri is the traditional Japanese spring festival.
In our case, this inaugural effort gathers some exceedingly good talent in Japanese cooking. Perhaps you remember when we wrote about Y’s Kitchen Catering, which was formed by Yosuke Fukada, former GM at Tei-An, and a former sushi chef at Tei-Tei Robata. They’ll be doing sushi. Niwa Japanese BBQ, which is hosting the festivities, will peddle yakitori grilled over charcoal. (I’ve had their yakitori skewers for events before, and it is delicious.) A new ramen shop, Ichigoh, slated to open in the summer, will debut its ramen. And the talented George Kaiho, bar manager at Jettison, will be mixing cocktails that feature sake.
Show up between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. for a performance by the taiko drummers of Dallas Kiyari Daiko.
