There’s not always enough time in the day to skim a lengthy, re-worded press release that’s been stamped with “breaking” or “exclusive.” And some stories don’t warrant an entire page of prose. Each week we’ll gather the most important tidbits of Dallas food news and post them here, on SideDish. Because sometimes all you need is the scoop.

Fat Chicken closes: The Southern-inspired restaurant located in Trinity Groves has closed. According to the release:

“Fat Chicken offered Chef DJ Quintanilla’s distinctive take on all things chicken—southern fried with biscuits, oven roasted, grilled, pot pies and even ‘chickarrones’—as well as an old-fashioned pie cart with a daily selection of scratch-made pies. Co-owners Quintanilla and Linda Mazzei were among the first aspiring restaurateurs to launch at Trinity Groves when they opened Resto Gastro Bistro in 2013, followed by Fat Chicken in 2016…”

“DJ and Linda have been wonderful partners,” says Trinity Groves co-founder Phil Romano. “The restaurant business is not for the faint of heart. It requires hard work, resilience and an unwavering passion, all of which they’ve demonstrated during their tenure at Trinity Groves. I’m happy to have been an important part of their entrepreneurial journey.”

DISH Preston Hollow closes: I received a statement yesterday from NL Group CEO, Tim McEneny, regarding the closure of DISH Preston Hollow. It reads:

“As of today, January 2, 2018, we’ve decided to cease operation of DISH Preston Hollow due to unresolvable concerns with our building and location. We’re incredibly grateful to the many guests that have dined at DISH Preston Hollow over the years and we look forward to seeing friends of the restaurant at our other concepts, those now open and coming soon to the city.”

Wave goodbye.
