There’s not always enough time in the day to skim a lengthy, re-worded press release that’s been stamped with “breaking” or “exclusive.” And some stories don’t warrant an entire page of prose. Each week we’ll gather the most important tidbits of Dallas food news and post them here, on SideDish. Because sometimes all you need is the scoop.

Picolé Pops opens today: The gourmet popsicle shop, located on West Davis Street in the Bishop Arts District, opens today. The weather must have received the same press release that I did, as the predicted high for today is 92 degrees. That’s good popsicle-licking weather, people. According to that release:

Picolé Pops will serve three types of Brazilian popsicles including fruity, creamy, and even premium-filled. The fruity menu boasts an array of tangy popsicles along with two exotic, Brazilian flavors of Açaí and Maracuya. In keeping with the season, a Pumpkin Spice popsicle can be found on the creamy menu, amongst an assortment of other sweet flavors like Toasted Coconut and Dulce de Leche. Picolé Pops will also serve a variety of premium-filled popsicles including the Chocolate Lovers, a traditional chocolate popsicle with a creamy Nutella center, then dipped in chocolate to give it an extra crunch.

Picolé Pops is located at 415 West Davis St., hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Toulouse Café offers new happy hour: Executive chef Yoann Lardeux has put together a new happy hour menu that features $7 specials. Items include a croque monsieur, smoked salmon rillettes, and steak tartare. Additionally, select red, white, and rosé wines, as well as liquors, are available for $5. Happy hour is served at the bar and on the patio Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Firestone & Robertson Distilling Co. to open Whiskey Ranch: The “112-acre whiskey wonderland” will open just south of downtown Fort Worth. According to the release:

The visitor center, or Ranch House, is the hub of activity at Whiskey Ranch. Guests will be led to a dedicated check-in area before arriving at the Ranch Store, a 2,000-square-foot retail area showcasing F&R products along with local goods from Texas artisans. Handmade caps adorning each bottle of TX Whiskey is an F&R signature, and a cap-making station will allow guests to create their own.

The ‘Barrel Breezeway,’ with barrel racks that mimic the rick house on property, leads to the Tavern and the Oak Room. The Tavern is available for tastings and features a large custom bar, comfortable seating, and historic golf memorabilia on display. Around the corner is the Oak Room, with a floor-to-ceiling tiered rock fireplace, sealed concrete floors, oversized round chandeliers with industrial pendant lighting and plenty of natural light. The Oak Room is intended for corporate and private events of any kind and can accommodate approximately 175 people.

Whiskey Ranch will be the largest whiskey distillery west of the Mississippi, the only one on a fully functioning 18-hole golf course, and the first with a 50-foot copper column still in full view, along with the world’s first ‘doubler’ designed with site windows for public tours. The site has four deep water wells, which will be used to craft the beloved TX Straight Bourbon.

Starting November 10, guests can visit the ranch on Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 5 p.m. Daily tours begin in January. The ranch is currently available for private events. More information can be found here.
