Every summer chef Chris Ward hosts an afternoon grilling and cooking class at The Mercury. The event is not your average food demo, it’s also a charity event that benefits GALT, an all-volunteer group dedicated to finding homes for greyhounds. Most of the dogs were trained as racers and they have medical needs and need help transitioning from track life to home life. If you are interested in fostering, adopting, or volunteering for GALT, check out their website.
This year Cooking For the Hounds takes place on Saturday, August 19 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at The Mercury. Ward will be joined by former Dallas Star Craig Ludwig. Ward will prepare a full menu which will include grilled steaks, marinated olives, Garbage Salad, twice-baked potatoes, and Baked Alaska. He’ll grill on a Hasty-Bake Legacy 131 Charcoal Grill which will be auctioned off during the event.
Tickets are $85 per person. You’ll be treated to a full course tasting of demonstrated recipes, recipe cards, two drink tickets, and door prizes. Expect a silent auction filled with artwork, spa and restaurant gift certificates, and custom jewelry. To purchase tickets online click on the events page or call 972-503-GALT.
