Texas Spice at the Omni Hotel and Balcones Distillery have teamed up again to present a tantalizing reception dinner paired with Balcones whiskey cocktails. Brisket with blackberry barbecue sauce, pickle-brined smoked chicken, goat cheese-and-bacon cornbread, and iced tea chess pie are just a few of the features on this amazing spread.
Cost is $60 per person. The event is from 6:30-10 p.m. and maxes out at 60 guests; call (214) 979-4529 to reserve your spot.
April 22
This free evening kicks off at 5:30 p.m. at Farmers Branch Historical Park. Bring your own cooler and food (no outside alcohol), or hit up one of the many food trucks for Cajun, sliders, barbecue, ice cream, pizza, Korean, Cuban, Italian, and more. Bring blankets and lawn chairs, or rent a chair for $2, for the Prophets & Outlaws concert at 6 p.m. and the thriller Passengers at 8:15 p.m. Off-site childcare is available ($10 per child, ages 3-12).
3 Nations Brewing is opening a new tap room, and it’s only appropriate to celebrate with lots of beer. Drop in between noon and 8 p.m. to try some of the eight different beers ($3 each) and enjoy food, games, and music.
Grab your gondola (or just rent one) for an afternoon of arts and culture by the Mandalay Canal in Irving. There will be plenty of food and alcohol vendors in the food court and several restaurants. Gather near the stages for live music and dance performances, and wander the canal for art exhibits and free henna, caricature, magic, craft, and face painting booths. The free festival runs from 2-8 p.m.
April 23
For those who like a little soul with their salad, there’s a funky brunch at Vetted Well. Cory Kilduff & PICNICTYME will spin all-vinyl funk sets from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Grab some fried pickles and a grown-up grilled cheese, and pop into one of the amazing themed karaoke rooms while you’re there.
