Martin House Brewing is somewhat of a wild child, tethered as heavily to their organizational aptitude as they are to their spontaneous beer creations. They created 22 unique cans in 2016 alone and in April and May they will be releasing seven to eight new beers.
I sat down with Cody Martin, founder and brewery engineer, to discuss their methods and the love behind their most popular beer, The Salty Lady. (Truth time. We never actually sat down. We stood near the bar inside their brewery, and it was cool.)
Cody was an environmental engineer, and it’s the skills he learned there that prepared him to build his very own brewery. The mechanics just fit. So with the assistance of his co-founders, Adam and David, Martin House Brewing launched in 2013.
Side note: Cody is also a total hunk. He’s got a bear’s physique, but a softness in his eyes that just makes you feel safe and loved. I did not ask for a hug. Foolish.
From Cody:
“Our thing is a lot of beers. We call it a micro-seasonal. Basically, it’s a monthly seasonal. That beer, Salty Lady, started as a summer seasonal. The Bearded Lady was doing their one year party, and they said let’s do a special beer. I’d been wanting to do a Gose for a long time. They suggested Salty Lady as the name. They wanted to try and release it at the one year party. So we made it as a super limited thing. It was draft only. We heard a lot of really good things about it, so we said alright, lets bring it back next summer and let’s do it in cans. And when we did that, it just immediately became our best seller. And now it’s our best seller by double. Especially in the summer. We have Imperial Salty Lady coming out later.”
So there you have it. A little taste from the inside.
