Raise a glass to the seven kingdoms.

got-wine-bottle-groupI just received a notice that Sigel’s is having a pre-sale on the new Game of Throne wines. Crafted by HBO Game of Thrones super-fan, and 40-year California winemaker, Bob Cabral. Cabral was “challenged to craft wines to match the strength the characters and the terrain of their kingdoms.” His meticulousness and patience has yielded a product that embodies the spirit of the HBO series. They celebrate tenacity, strength, and power.

I am typically not a fan of gimmicky wines. However, when you have a great winemaker working with quality fruit, I become very interested.

I have not sampled the wines, but Cabral’s impressive resume makes me want to. A fourth generation farmer and grape grower, he spent 16 years as the winemaker at William Selyem. Currently he is Director of Winemaking at Three Sticks Winery in Sonoma. (He has also produced over 100 wines earning 95-100 points.)

Wines include a robust Napa Valley Cabernet ($50), Central Coast Chardonnay ($20) with an unexpected touch of Riesling, and Red Blend ($20) from Paso Robles. The labels detail Game of Thrones storylines and are beautifully designed.

Sigel’s has each on sale. The Napa Cab is $43, the other two are $17 each. They are available by calling 972-685-2320. Wines will be delivered to your requested Sigel’s location by mid-April. Order enough to tie you over until the show returns July 16.
