Last week, I asked for your opinions about the new food items at the State Fair of Texas. I asked because most people I’ve talked to have not been impressed. Only one brave reader, Phoebe, braved the backlash and provided us with an honest report:

I hadn’t been to the fair in 9 years, so I’m making up for lost time! The fried Jell-o was underwhelming, but I got the rainbow cookie fries with strawberry dip twice (I’m on my 4th visit with my season pass…I wasn’t joking). The fried bacon burger dog on a stick isn’t worth it. My favorite is the fried clam chowder, though I hate that it’s 16 coupons for 3 pieces. Fried corn on the cob isn’t worth it, and while the Funnel Cake Ale is cute and gimmicky, it’s a little too sweet.

Hmm. That’s on par with what I’ve heard. Any last comments before I open the comments to our State Fair of Texas food editor, Alice Laussaude?
