Recently I spent a few days in Fort Worth and when the time came to drive home, I didn’t want to leave. The cover story of current issue of D Magazine is devoted to Fort Worth. We highlighted as many activities, shops, museums, restaurants, and events as we could cram into the space we had. Needless to say, we could have added 20 more pages and still missed some quirky cool spot.
The staff divided the city into beats and each of us took an area and combed through it. I picked The Stockyards. I called my old (old!) friend and real cowboy, Steve “Cowboy” Murrin.
After a few hours, I asked him where he wanted to have lunch. He continued his talk on the history of the area and steered me to the front door of the Star Cafe, where they have been serving food since the early 1900s. Cowboy and I feasted on a thin T-bone steak while my friend dug into a thick chicken-fried steak covered in cream gravy.
Here is my quick guide to The Stockyards. I’m headed back soon and would love to hear about your favorite spots in Fort Worth.
