The Localist: Klein Bros Garlic Dill Okra

Sink your teeth into this tangy Texas snack.

Klein Bros has been making traditional Texas foods for more than 85 years. The company started with a tiny storefront in Tomball, Texas where they sold produce and goods from the family farm located just a few miles away. Klein Bros has since grown but has stayed true to their original motto: “Made in Texas by Texans for those who love Texas.” The company’s production is still based out of Tomball but has expanded with the third generation to include wholesale distribution and internet sales.

Klein Bros may not be in our backyard but it is one of the biggest companies making true farm-to-retail Texas foods. Their menu is extensive, as they carry anything from jerky, nuts, salsa, spices, jalapeños, jams, jellies, dip mixes, candies, and so on. One of their best sellers (and my personal favorite) is the Garlic Dill Okra. Six simple ingredients: okra, water, vinegar, garlic, salt, and dill. These are the perfect addition to a cheeseboard and can be added to any gumbo recipe for an extra kick of flavor.

Some of the more popular Klein Bros items can be found at Central Market off Lovers. All of their products are available online and they have several Texas themed gift baskets that are perfect for the holiday season. To learn more about Klein Bros and see all they have to offer visit their website here.
