The Localist: Cowboy Candy

This sweet and spicy treat goes well with everything.

Cowboy Candy is a product of Little Texas Gifts, which is one of my favorite Texas retailers. Cowboy Candy is a perfect gift because it seems to emulate Texas in general. It’s a little sweet, a little spicy, and it goes well with everything. Ingredients are: apple cider vinegar, pure cane sugar, jalapeños, fruit pectin and a few spices.

This treat is great when poured over cream cheese and served with crackers, and is equally delicious when scooped on top of a grilled hot dog. Artizone carries these products and recommends saving the juice from the jar and adding it to beans and rice.

Little Texas Gifts offers several other products all with the cutest Texas names and the best flavor combinations. They also recently came out with Paleo Preserves, a line of naturally sweetened jams suited for sugar-conscious, diabetic, and paleo patrons.

I picked up my jar of Cowboy Candy at a local Dallas grocer. You can visit their website to find a full list of retailers or order online.
