It’s no secret that Dallasites love to dine out. And nearly every neighborhood in the city boasts its own cluster of restaurants, bars, delis, and markets. In honor of our recently launched neighborhood guides, we will be regularly highlighting some of the restaurants in town that make dining in each area a unique experience.

This week we’re highlighting some of the best neighborhood restaurants in Uptown. Have a favorite that didn’t make the list? Let us know in the comment section below.

Dream Café

The Quadrangle Dream Café location has been serving families and uptown residents since 1988. The spacious, kid-friendly patio is packed every weekend during brunch, so expect a wait for house-made popovers with strawberry butter, fluffy ricotta pancakes, and crab cake Benedict. Fortunately there are plenty of mimosas to go around.

This casual seafood joint has been shucking oysters in Uptown since 1976. The restaurant embodies an old-school ’50s Louisiana vibe and serves comfort dishes such as a fried oyster loaf on a buttered bun with tartar sauce and ketchup, spicy shrimp and cream cheese dip, and seafood gumbo.

Bread Winners

This Dallas staple has been plating up comfort food in Uptown since 1994. While brunch is the restaurant’s most popular meal (the grilled croque-madame sandwich with ham, swiss cheese, jalapeño cream gravy, and a sunny side up egg is a personal favorite), their dinner options are worth a try. The menu is loaded with comfort food options such as roasted chicken, shrimp and cheddar grits, and a bacon wrapped pork tenderloin with green chile mac and cheese. Good luck trying to save room for dessert.

The Rustic

The Rustic is Uptown’s go-to spot for large portions, strong pours, and live music. Sip a frozen margarita the size of your head, and nosh on wild boar meatballs and cactus fritters while you tap your cowboy (or cowgirl) boots to local and national country musicians.

The Common Table

This casual restaurant boasts one of the best beer selections in Dallas. The rotating draft menu offers a wide range of local and national brews. Can’t pick just one? Choose one of their many beer flight options instead.

Uchi

People flock from all over North Texas to snag a table at Uchi. It is, after all, one of the hottest new restaurants in Dallas. But you’re just as likely to be seated next to Uptown regulars, as you are a table of folks who drove 45 minutes across town in rush hour traffic. I recommend popping in during their daily happy hour, which runs from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and snagging a seat at the bustling sushi bar.

Si Tapas

It’s easy to overlook this tiny restaurant located in an old house in the State-Thomas neighborhood of Uptown. But once you find it, you’ll want to return time and again. Take a seat in the cozy dining room, order a glass (or bottle) of wine, and nosh on authentic Spanish tapas such as sauteed artichokes in lemon cream sauce, Spanish anchovies, and mixed marinated olives.
