Bits & Bites: Things to Eat in Dallas (July 14 – 19)

This is a big week for international fare. If you want to celebrate French culture, learn about the taco scene, or taste your way through Belgium, then consider this week your passport.

Tuesday, July 14

Frenchmen and French-enthusiasts alike can celebrate Bastille Day by sauntering down to Bishop Arts District. For $25, you’ll get two tokens to spend on food and wine tastings throughout the venue. From 6 to 10 p.m., you can enjoy authentic French food, outdoor markets, wine tastings, crepe stands, french music and dancing. The event will take over three blocks of the historic Bishop Arts District in North Oak Cliff. Get your tickets here.

Lavendou Bistro Provençal is serving up a three-course meal in celebration of Bastille Day. Executive Chef Pascal Cayet and his culinary team will prepare the meal for those who make reservations through next Thursday night. The dinner is $43 per person. Call (972) 248-1911 to reserve a seat.

Ever wonder how the Dallas taco scene came to be? For $32.50 you’ll not only get all of the answers, but you’ll get to chow down on all of the El Come Taco tacos that you can eat at Dallas Tacology: The Tortilla’s Tale in Big D. Cookbook author and blogger, Lesley Tellez, is leading a cooking class at the Lovers Lane Central Market. For $65, you’ll learn how to make two Mexican stewed dishes and salsa. Click here for ticket information.

Thursday, July 16

The weekly Evening in the Shed continues tonight at the Dallas Farmers Market. See what the vendors have to offer and enjoy the fresh artisan food, beer and wine, and live music.

Friday, July 17

Omni Dallas is hosting its Third Friday event this week. Partnering with 44 Farms, the Omni Hotel is offering a four-course dinner with beer pairings for each course. The reception begins at 6:30 p.m. and is $55 per person. Call (214) 979-4529 to reserve your seat.

The second annual “Win or Brews” silent auction for Shelley’s Heroes is taking place at Community Beer Company Brewery. For $20, you’ll get two beers from Community Beer Co. Saturday, July 18

It’s a Crank-Off! Walnut off the Square is hosting an Ice Cream Crank-off on Walnut St. in Downtown Denton. Taste all of the entries for $15 and decide for yourself who reigns supreme. Winners will be announced around 1:30 p.m., so get while the getting’s not melted.

The Ginger Man is celebrating Belgian independence with unique events throughout the month of July. The month comes to a culmination with a special Belgian tasting today at 3 p.m. Sip a variety of Belgian beers, nosh on food pairings, and meet local brewery reps. Sunday, July 19

CBD Provisions is hosting Sunday Supper Classics through August 2. Each week features a three-course menu including an appetizer, entrée, and dessert.
