5 Over-the-Top Dallas French Fry Dishes

We’ve compiled a list of some of most interesting fried potato plates around town.

Happy National French Fry Day, Dallas.

Crisp Tots with a Local Egg from Velvet Taco

Every time I go to Velvet Taco, it takes everything in me to actually order a taco. Why? Because the crisp tots with a local egg is always the opposing option. Listed only as a side, the tots are easily made a meal when you don’t have to share. The tots are nestled underneath crumbles of herbed goat cheese, smoked cheddar, avocado crema, and bacon. To top it off (quite literally), an over-medium egg is draped over the concoction to add just a bit more indulgent texture. Heavy. Breathing.

Duck, Pork, and Mushroom Poutine from The Blind Butcher

Poutine is a classic Canadian dish involving cheese curds, gravy, and fries. We could stop right there and be satisfied, but The Blind Butcher takes this three steps further to offer unique interpretations.

Duck poutine: Duck fat fries, local cheese curds, duck leg confit, a fried egg, and duck gravy. Options to add a duck egg and/or seared piece of foie gras are encouraged.

Pork poutine: House-made pork belly, local cheese curds, and fries tossed in Blind Butcher fry spice. Oh, and it’s served with smoky pork gravy. Oink oink.

Mushroom poutine: This vegetarian option offers rich mushroom gravy, local cheese curds and fries tossed in their signature fry spice.

K-Town Fries from LA Burger

LA Burger is known for its Korean-American fusion dishes. Using traditional Korean spices and flavors, their basket of shoestring French fries takes on a whole new level of loaded. Bulgogi, kimchi, cheese, cilantro, onions, and their house-made special sauce come together to make a flavor you’ll not likely forget.

A few years ago, Nancy had this to say about them: “De-li-ci-ous. If I were sending someone to this place, I would make them order this dish. Every bite gave off a burst of flavor.”

Gangnam Kimchi Fries from bbbop Seoul Kitchen

Another Korean-inspired French fry basket? This must be the future of fry-dom.

With a completely different set of flavors, bbbop serves their thick-cut, curry and ranch-seasoned fries with your meat of choice, house-made kimchi, cilantro, pickled jalapenos, spicy sauce, and an over-easy egg. You’ve got to be quick to the trigger when ordering a basket for your whole table to share. They’ll be gone before you can say, “What’s kimchi?

Luau Fries from Grub Burger Bar

Listed as a “snack” instead of a “side,” Grub’s Hawaiian-inspired French fries carry a little more merit as a meal than the traditional fry basket. Their shoestring fries are topped with braised pulled pork, monterey jack and cheddar cheese, grilled pineapple, jalapeños, teriyaki, and barbecue sauce. Aloha, taste buds.
