jbirds and fried piesThe rate of new food trucks appearing in Dallas has slowed since the initial food truck explosion in 2011.  I’m happy to report that the quantity has dropped, but the quality of food offerings has risen.  I point to the recent debut of Cousins Main Lobster and to two new trucks: JBirds Chicken and Fried Pies for All.

JBirds menu includes sandwiches and wraps, all based on marinated chicken breasts.  No fried chicken to be found on this truck.  JBirds just hit the streets and I haven’t been able to track it down just yet.

Fried Pies for All just started rolling as well. The menu includes sweet and savory fried pies.  I haven’t tried Fried Pies for All yet, so I reached out to Rawlins Gilliland, who I knew to be a fan.  Here’s what he had to say about the sweet fried pies:

Each bite of the crisp flaky crust, that is never the least bit greasy, is just a tempting prelude to the delicious fruit fillings that are never too sweet or too tart. No corn starch goo here. Just thrilling bites that feel like comfort kisses. I buy these suckers by the dozen & individually freeze them. That way I have two a day. Although they are all universally winners. The coconut cream makes me scream and those pineapple are heavenly. That lemon! The cherry sooooo perfect. The apricot is to die for. These pies are the dream come true for a man who loved fried pies growing up. But Fried Pies For All simply nailed it. In every aspect, they are the best I’ve ever had. And I do not truly have a ‘sweet tooth’.

I’m interested to try both of these new trucks.  If you try one, come back and tell us what you think.
