The May 1985 issue of D Magazine features an eight page spread on how to eat, drink, and party on Lower Greenville. “Yes, Greenville Avenue sends mixed signals,” the author writes, “For some observers, it’s a lemming trail of shallow materialists seeking one night stands. For the kid from the suburbs it may be a right of passage, an initiation into the ‘real’ (or unreal) world.”
The story covers 24 hours of people watching on the strip: a bartender at the Blue Goose Cantina carefully pours a drink called the Easy Way, made with Frangelica, Stolichnaya, and Bailey’s Irish Creme; business people flock to Panteli’s for lunch; and a group meanders into Prospect Grill for tequila shooters and spicy chili.
There’s also a section titled “Greenville Avenue from A to Z” which lists top businesses in the neighborhood including Arcadia, New Big Wong, and Zanzibar. The feature makes for a fun read.
