April showers bring May… even more showers. Even with rain on everyone’s mind and in each day’s forecast, don’t let it put a damper on your plans. Be sure to keep those umbrellas out as you head to this weekend’s culinary events.

Thursday, May 28:

Want to eat a meal grown completely from a nearby garden? Here’s your chance. Chef Andrea Shackelford, of Harvest Seasonal Kitchen, will serve a complete farm to table 6-course meal in Historic Downtown McKinney. The event starts with crispy pork shoulder appetizers at 6 p.m. and ends with a fresh, summer berry dessert. You can purchase tickets for $100.

The Grape continues its monthly Cheese and Wine Chat from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The restaurant’s sommelier and certified cheese professional will lead the $28 event. Reservations are required, and available by phone at 214-828-1981.

Saturday, May 30:

Grab your friends and head to Deep Ellum Brewing Co.’s charity event, Hops for Haiti. From 7 to 9:30 p.m., the event will include appetizers provided by Main Street Bakery, craft beer and a brewery tour. All proceeds from the event go toward buildOn, an international nonprofit. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door.

Sunday, May 31:

If you’re tried of your regular Sunday brunch scene, switch it up by going to 6th Street’s “Sunday Funday” on McKinney Ave. From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., the bar and grill provides an award-winning brunch, drink specials, and a DJ to put an end to Sunday blues.

Want to learn BBQ tricks from “the Best Chef in the Southwest?” Acclaimed Austin chef and owner of Franklin Barbeque, Aaron Franklin, is hosting a “Meat and Greet” book signing at the Wild Detectives bookstore in Oak Cliff. There will be smoked sausage provided from a local barbeque restaurant as Franklin reads an excerpt from his book, Franklin Barbeque: A Meat Smoking Manifesto. The free event runs from 5 to 9 p.m. Register online to secure your spot.

Look no further for a creative date idea: Sea Breeze Fish Market & Grill is offering cooking classes. Beginning last month, they began offering two classes per month to accommodate the high demand. Call to reserve your $50 spot at 972-473-2722.
