I bumped into an interesting little story while doing research for the current D Magazine cover story on eating healthy. Mark Herrin, owner/nutritionist of Sundrops Vitamins & Nutrition, is working on the menu at Mudhen, Shannon Wynne’s new restaurant under construction in the Dallas Farmers Market. Wynne is obviously serious about serving serve chef-driven, seasonal, and healthful food sourced through local growers whenever possible. “Quality is achieved by using leaner meats, fish, and other proteins without pesticides,” Herrin says. “We’ll use grass-fed and/or wild-sourced meat, innovative recipes for a large variety of organic produce, when available, and green and yellow vegetables and berries.”

Many of you probably know Herrin. Sundrops, a 1,800-square-foot shop that opened on Oak Lawn in 1976, has been the go-to spot for vitamins and advice. Herrin has just relocated to a new 5,000-square-foot location on Central Expressway near Fitzhugh Avenue. Now you can find more than 10,000 items on the shelves and a variety of smoothies, juices, blended vegetables, fruit, and specialty drinks, frozen yogurt, and snacks prepared at the in-store snack station. Herrin also does private consultations.

You can read more about him here.
