In 1983 D Magazine randomly selected 5,000 subscribers to send questionnaires to, the surveys asked for reader’s input on what they considered to be the best and worst places to dine in Dallas. It was a clever way to round up reader’s picks pre-internet.

Each survey included a non-specific best and worst all-around category, best pizza, favorite dive, best new restaurant and more. S&D Oyster Co., Campisi’s, and Cafe Pacific, were all celebrated in the piece.
