We have all heard the advice, eating small meals throughout the day, as long as they are healthy, can help to win the battle of the bulge. So when the demand for wholesome, easy-to-eat foods began to rise we saw our snack options sky rocket. And we all rejoiced.

I first came across Woats Oatsnack a couple of years ago at Chefs for Farmers here in Dallas. In a slew of local restaurateurs handing out samples off their menu I met Justin Anderson, Founder and President of Woats, handing out samples of his chewy oat snack. I never pass up a snack. I especially never pass up a free snack.

Granola has always been one of my favorites but I had never tasted it in this way. Woats uses whole grain oats, in combination with other all natural ingredients, and bakes them perfectly into these amazing little chewy nuggets. The shift from crunchy granola most of us are accustomed to, to this, was a genius idea. My favorite is the Peanut Butter Graham Slam. It combines creamy all-natural peanut butter, crisp honey graham crackers, butter toffee peanuts, and of course, oats and honey. It’s a great balance of sweetness and the nugget size is perfect for grabbing a handful on the run.

Woats comes in three other flavors: Cookies ’n’ Dreams, oats mixed with chocolate vanilla cream sandwich cookies; Nuts About Berries, which has roasted pecan prailines and tangy cranberries; and their newest flavor, Jammin’ Strawberry Shortbread.

Along with making great snack food, Justin has used his platform to help give back to kids across America. “The mission of Woats Oatsnack is to inspire kids and young adults to discover and harness their passions, make a difference in their communities and change the world for the better.” Justin, a Fort Worth resident, travels the United States sharing his story of overcoming adversity and encouraging others to pursue their dreams. They also offer college scholarships to young adults who have shown passion and ambition to push towards what inspires them the most.

I have always been proud to call Dallas/Fort Worth my home, but meeting people like Justin Anderson and hearing his story makes me dang near boastful.

Woats is available in several stores across the DFW area and most recently has hit the shelves of select Target and Kroger stores.
