So, you’re still mourning the passing of Halloween by chowing down on leftover candy and washing it down with another Pumpkin Spice Latte? Don’t worry, it’s officially pie season and this weekend offers a number of events to help you enjoy this cooler weather and that holiday hunger for baked fruits.

Friday, November 7

Kick your weekend off with a street party painted pink. Pink for breast cancer that is. Barcadia, Beauty Bar, Capitol Pub, and Gin Mill will house live music by a number of DJs and auctions to benefit The GDAS Cancer Clinic. Cocktails for a Cure will provide specialty cocktails with a portion of proceeds going to the foundation.

Are you the kind of kid that always orders a side of pie with that cup of coffee? Then, you should head to Davis Street Espresso for the Slow Food Dallas Second Annual Coffee and Pie, Oh My celebration. Along with pour from Davis Street baristas, guests can enjoy two special off-menu pies from Emporium Pies. Buy one ticket for $20 or two for $35 and drown yourself in endless coffee with a slice of pie. The event goes down from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. and proceeds go to Slow Food Dallas.

Saturday, November 8

Oyster season is upon us and there is no better way to celebrate than by slurping down as many pre-shucked oysters as you can over the span of two minutes. Fish City Grill and Half Shells host their annual oyster eating contest at 3 p.m. pitting teams of four against one another relay-style. Teams must pledge a minimum of $300, which goes directly to Irving Cares, but the winner reaps the benefit of $1,000 and a very classy trophy. Slurping isn’t your style? Enjoy chargrilled oysters, black-n-blue oysters, drink specials, and music, while you watch contestants battle it out. Contestants must submit their application by happy hour (5 p.m.) on Friday, November 7 to Gje Greene at [email protected].

Alamo Drafthouse breaks ground at their new Dallas home with a special screening of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. This free screening will take place in the parking lot next to Cedars Social starting at 5 p.m. Expect food trucks and local beer from Deep Ellum Brewing Company, but don’t forget it’s BYOC (Bring Your Own Chair).

Sunday, November 9

Didn’t get your fill of pie on Friday? The sixth annual Fall Pie Contest at Vickery Meadows Local Market invites you to bake your best and/or eat your heart out. Contests must provide two pies for public sampling from noon to 2 p.m., where the market will decide the winners in the following categories: fruit, nut, chocolate, cream/custard, savory, and youth. Entry is $10 and tasting tickets cost $5 and can be purchased at the VMLM information desk. Register online by today or call (214) 797-4989.

Libertine Bar now has a roast pairing running every Sunday and Monday for $15. Nosh on short ribs with roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes paired with the GABF Gold Medal Winner Grapevine Sir William’s Brown Ale or a glass of Darkhorse Cabernet Sauvignon. That’s one tasty deal.

An all-star line of chefs will cook up a dinner for the books at Café Momentum’s pop-up dinner at The Joule Hotel. For $150, you can take in the city lights and city eats on the rooftop terrace at 6 p.m. Chefs include names like Graham Dodds, Jeff Harris, Matt Ford, and Adam West.
