The early stages of fall is the perfect time to check out your favorite area farmers market. From upcoming chili cook-offs to the last batches of summer produce, there’s plenty going on this weekend!
Coppell Farmers Market
Although the summer season is winding down, the Coppell Farmers Market has eight farmers with produce and two ranchers with grass-fed and natural meats stocking the market throughout fall. This week, look out for tomatoes in different sizes, from grape to heirloom. The market also has a variety of squash, including yellow summer, zucchini, butta zucchini, butternut, and spaghetti. Don’t hesitate to stock up on the market’s sweet, hot, and bell peppers either! This Saturday, the market will also host a free Tai Chi session at 9 a.m. on the grassy area south of the Pavilion. The session will be led by Tai Chi instructor Brett Thompson, with Gold Horse Academy. There’s no better way to spend a Saturday than at the No. 1 Most Celebrated Farmers Market in Texas!

This week, the market features Heirloom Gourmet’s all-natural fruit and vegetable jams and gourmet pickles. Try the market favorite Mediterranean Sun-Dried Tomato Jam! Sample treats such as Blueberry Orange Amaretto Jam, Strawberry Chipotle Jam, and Southern lime pickles.

Vickery Meadow Local Market
This Sunday, White Rock Local Market, in partnership with the Vickery Meadow Improvement District and Half Price Books, will launch Vickery Meadow Local Market at the northwest corner of Half Price Books’ flagship store on Northwest Highway in Dallas. This new farmers market will set up from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday through December 14. The market will offer healthy food as well as arts and crafts. For this weekend, vendors will include: EMA Baking, Haute Sweets, Brazos Valley Cheese, Good Earth Organics and Texas Honeybee Guild. White Rock Lake Farmers Market
Melons are still in stock. Look for late tomatoes, okra, onions, greens, squash, and a few pumpkins. This weekend, vendors such as Noble Coyote Coffee, Luscher’s Post Oak Red Hots, Molli Cooking Sauces, and JJ&B Jams and Jellies will be on site.
We know what you’re doing Oct.18! The fourth annual White Rock Local Market Chili Showdown will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at Lakeside Baptist Church, located at 9150 Garland Road. Up to 20 teams will offer samples for a public tasting. Celebrity judges for the showdown will include Daniel Vaughn, BBQ Snob, author and BBQ editor at Texas Monthly; Chef Sharon Hage, of Farm to Fork Consulting; and Nancy Black, editor of White Rock Lake Weekly. Last weekend, the market welcomed in produce that will become more familiar to shoppers as fall approaches. This weekend, expect more apples, pears, acorn and butternut squashes, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, and root vegetables. While there, make sure to check out more than the produce. Look for handmade jewelry, essential oils for health and beauty needs, pottery, breads, pies, and pastries. Shoppers can also purchase handmade quilts, aprons, placemats, and table runners in colorful prints and holiday fabrics. Also, with cooler weather on the way, it’s time to think about planting trees and perennials. Check out the market’s selection of trees and potted plants on hand. The master gardener booth also offers shoppers instructions on growing cool-weather vegetables and herb gardens.
